Will expansion by waterway (within reasonable limit/with fluff) be allowed? cuz I'm totally for that.

Colonies 71, 73, 81, and 100 give you one each and colonies 74 and 75 each give you two.

Add it all together and that's eight.

EDIT: As far as waterway expansion, I'll allow it if you can give a good explanation in fluff.

I'm wondering how the whole diplomatic situation will turn out.
Anyone want to draw up a diplomap so I can see what's going on?

I'm mostly concerned about the French, Mercenaries, USSR, and Caliphate (as they are my neighbours).

To be fair, the Comintern was real and, as has already been pointed out, the USSR (its founding member) and the USA got along fine during WW2.

Yes, it was real. It was a real international organization dedicated to overthrowing the bourgeoisie. That capitalists naturally didn't like. And the west only cooperated with Stalin strictly because the nazis popped up.

There was an allied expeditionary force that was being readied to help Finland in the Winter War and everything before they decided at the last minute that the fascists were more dangerous.

If its being taught in schools, I'm pretty sure there's a dash of proof to it. Regardless, the red scare was alive and well in the 30s. Churchill described the alliance with the USSR pretty well. "If Hitler were to invade hell, I would give Satan as much assistance as I could." (not his exact words, but the point gets across.)

Churchill was also a tad insane and wanted to invade the USSR in 1945, a couple of months after Japan surrendered. Didn't he get thrown out of office once the war ended?

yes, and FDR's desperation to keep in Stalin's good graces let the russians get away with a lot.
